History
San Lorenzo Ruiz has evolved from a small rural community into a growing municipality serving the people of Camarines Norte.
1800
- The area that is now San Lorenzo Ruiz was originally a sitio of Barangay Mampurog, under the Municipality of Calasgasan.
Late 1896
- Juan Araujo from Guinobatan, Albay arrived and cleared part of the virgin forested area.
- This cleared area later became known as Matacong.
1905
- Juan Araujo sold the Matacong area to Victor Abaño.
1917
- Victor Abaño later sold Matacong to Victor Racho.
March 1919
- The former province of Ambos Camarines was divided into Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte.
- After this reorganization, Calasgasan was reduced into a barrio of Daet, and Matacong became part of Daet.
1938
- Settlers of Matacong formed the Samahang Magsasaka (Farmers' Association).
- They petitioned the Municipal Council of Daet.
- During the time of Mayor Santiago Canaleja, Matacong was officially made a barrio of Daet, separated from its mother barrio, Mampurog.
November 8, 1970
- Republic Act No. 6144 created the Municipality of Imelda.
- It was composed of several barrios from Daet and Basud, including Matacong and Mampurog.
February 10, 1989
- Republic Act No. 6708 changed the municipality's name from Imelda to San Lorenzo Ruiz.
- The new name honored the first Filipino saint, San Lorenzo Ruiz.

Religious Heritage
The Municipality of San Lorenzo Ruiz was formerly known as Imelda. By virtue of Republic Act No. 6708, approved on February 10, 1989, the municipality was renamed San Lorenzo Ruiz. The change of name established a distinct historical and religious identity for the municipality and remains an important part of its official history.
Agricultural Traditions
Agriculture remains one of the important sectors in the Municipality of San Lorenzo Ruiz. Provincial and regional agricultural records indicate continuing support for pineapple production and farmer development initiatives in the municipality. These reflect the continuing role of agriculture in local livelihood and in the economic life of the community.
